Deadly Russian drone strikes reported in Slavyansk and Nikopol

Recent Russian military actions in Ukraine have resulted in civilian casualties across two regions. On September 15, Russian forces struck the city of Slavyansk in the Donetsk region, killing a 54-year-old man and a 73-year-old woman, while leaving a 69-year-old woman injured. According to Vadym Lyakh, head of the local military administration, the attack caused severe damage to three residential houses. Slavyansk is located approximately 15 kilometers from the current frontline.

Separately, on September 16, a Russian drone strike targeted a passenger minibus in Nikopol, Dnipropetrovsk region, leading to the deaths of five people and injuring at least seven others. Regional governor Oleksandr Ganza confirmed the incident, noting that the vehicle was carrying civilians to their daily work. Mykola Lukashuk, head of the regional council, condemned the strike as a deliberate attack on civilian transport. Official images from the scene showed a damaged white vehicle with shattered windows.

These attacks occur amid a broader escalation of fighting in eastern and southern Ukraine. While the Donetsk region remains a focal point of ongoing military activity, the United Nations has reported that civilian casualties across the country are currently at their highest levels since the start of the conflict. Russian authorities have not commented on the incident in Nikopol.
