OEB and CERA discuss electricity market challenges and cost reduction

Leadership from the Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB), headed by President George Pantelidis, recently met with the senior management of the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA). The dialogue focused on the conclusions drawn from a High-Level Workshop on Electricity Cost Reduction, which was organized by the OEB on July 15, 2026, to engage all relevant stakeholders.

The discussions centered on operational issues identified during the first year of the Competitive Electricity Market. Key topics included the accuracy and timely availability of metering data, market settlement procedures, and the need for greater transparency and predictability in electricity charges. Furthermore, the participants examined strategies to address power production cuts from Renewable Energy Sources and discussed methods to accelerate market infrastructure development.

The meeting aimed to maintain an institutional dialogue between the two bodies to develop concrete proposals for improving market functions. By addressing these structural challenges, the OEB and CERA intend to facilitate a gradual reduction in energy costs for consumers and businesses in the long term.
