OEB and CERA discuss measures to reduce electricity costs in Cyprus

The Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB), led by President George Pantelidis, recently met with the senior management of the Cyprus Energy Regulatory Authority (CERA) to address challenges in the national electricity market. The discussion focused on the conclusions drawn from the High-Level Workshop on Electricity Cost Reduction, which was organized by the OEB on July 15, 2026, with the participation of key industry stakeholders.

Participants reviewed findings from the first year of the Competitive Electricity Market's operation. Major points of concern included the quality and timeliness of metering data, current market clearing procedures, and the need for increased transparency and predictability in electricity charges. Furthermore, the parties examined strategies to mitigate production curtailments from Renewable Energy Sources (RES). Discussions also covered the acceleration of energy storage system development, the modernization of power grids, and the implementation of smart meters and dynamic tariffs.

This meeting marks a continuation of the institutional dialogue aimed at optimizing market functionality. The goal of these initiatives is to systematically lower energy costs for consumers and businesses while ensuring a stable and efficient energy transition.
