Limassol court addresses theft case linked to Stavros Demosthenous murder investigation

On September 16, 2026, the Permanent Criminal Court of Limassol heard the facts regarding a 30-year-old man, Charalambos Savva, who pleaded guilty to the theft of a priest’s Mitsubishi Colt vehicle. The theft, which occurred on October 5, 2025, is linked to the broader investigation into the murder of businessman Stavros Demosthenous, committed on October 17, 2025. Although the defendant was initially implicated in the homicide case, the Attorney General suspended his prosecution for murder, as well as for two other individuals, to allow them to testify as prosecution witnesses.

During the proceedings, details emerged that Savva orchestrated the theft, paying an accomplice €300 to steal the car after learning the priest often left keys inside. The vehicle, valued at €4,000, was later discovered near the Sfalangiotissa cemetery on October 14, 2025. The prosecution presented these facts to the court, and the defendant requested that another pending criminal case against him be taken into account during sentencing.

The court has scheduled the sentencing hearing for the vehicle theft to take place on September 23, 2026. Savva remains in custody as legal proceedings regarding the primary murder case continue to unfold through the testimony of cooperating witnesses.
