Cyprus Police launch week-long road safety campaign
The Cyprus Police have launched a dedicated road safety campaign running from September 16 to September 22, 2026. This initiative is part of the Europe-wide ROADPOL Safety Days 2026 and coincides with European Mobility Week, aimed at preventing road traffic collisions and enhancing public awareness regarding safety.
The operation focuses primarily on the protection of vulnerable road users, specifically pedestrians. Authorities will be monitoring high-risk behaviors that contribute to accidents, including the use of mobile phones while moving, distracted walking, improper road crossing, the consumption of alcohol or narcotics, and the failure to wear reflective or highly visible clothing during nighttime hours.
Throughout the week, police officers will conduct nationwide enforcement measures alongside public awareness activities. These efforts include outreach programs at schools and various organized groups to promote the use of reflective equipment. The ultimate goal of these coordinated efforts is to cultivate a stronger sense of road safety and responsibility among all citizens across the region.
