Cyprus Medical Association to investigate doctors in wellness and anti-aging centers

The Cyprus Medical Association (PIS), led by Petros Agathangelou, has announced a sweeping investigation into its members working in both licensed and unlicensed wellness and anti-aging centers. This move follows the Ministry of Health's ongoing initiative to map all facilities providing procedures such as plasmapheresis, detox, or regenerative therapies. The Association aims to verify if these doctors adhere to medical ethics and their professional specialties, citing concerns over "charlatanism" and the proliferation of scientifically unproven services marketed via social media.

The intervention was prompted by recent revelations involving a center in Larnaca, where inspectors identified unauthorized equipment. The same facility had previously been linked to the illegal importation of hormones and medication from Greece. While the Ministry of Health maintains authority over the operational licensing of these centers, the PIS is reviewing its legal options regarding reports that a doctor at the facility allegedly used the association’s official branding without authorization. The PIS warned both the public and medical professionals against falling for deceptive terminology and is committed to initiating disciplinary procedures if evidence of malpractice is established.
