Cyprus Medical Association to probe doctors working in wellness and aesthetic centers

The Cyprus Medical Association (PIS) announced on September 16, 2026, its intention to conduct comprehensive audits of doctors collaborating with licensed and unlicensed wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging centers. PIS President Petros Agathangelou stated that this action follows the Ministry of Health's ongoing mapping of such facilities to ensure compliance with medical ethics and professional standards.

The initiative comes in response to reports regarding an unlicensed center in Larnaca, where inspectors recently discovered unauthorized equipment and evidence of procedures such as plasmapheresis being performed. This same center was previously investigated last spring when authorities seized illegally imported drugs and hormones from Greece. Legal counsel for the PIS is currently reviewing allegations regarding a physician at this facility who reportedly misused the association's emblem.

Moving forward, the PIS aims to address the rise of unverified "charlatan" therapies, the spread of medical misinformation on social media, and the direct commercial promotion of questionable health products. The association expects to complete its investigation into its members' roles once the Ministry of Health finishes its nationwide mapping of facilities offering invasive procedures.
