Cyprus Medical Association to investigate doctors at wellness and anti-ageing clinics

The Cyprus Medical Association (CyMA) announced on Wednesday a forthcoming investigation into doctors affiliated with wellness, weight-loss, and anti-ageing clinics, following reports of illegal medical practices. CyMA president Petros Agathangelou stated that the association will begin mapping doctors operating in unlicensed premises, targeting those providing treatments without sufficient scientific documentation or professional oversight. This initiative follows a police investigation in Larnaca involving two medical centres that offered plasmapheresis treatments and allegedly utilized illegally imported drugs and hormones.

The Health Ministry is concurrently conducting a nationwide survey of facilities offering invasive, high-risk, or wellness-related procedures to ensure regulatory compliance. While CyMA acknowledges that procedures like plasmapheresis have legitimate medical uses, officials expressed concern regarding their application for unauthorized purposes. Moving forward, the association plans to launch an information campaign to educate the public on the risks of unregulated medical services and will coordinate with health authorities to audit both licensed and unlicensed centres across the country.
