Ministry of agriculture presents new environmental priorities and Akamas park plans

Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Christos Senekis presented the government's upcoming environmental priorities before the Parliamentary Committee on Environment on September 16, 2026. The ministry's strategy focuses on four pillars: forest resilience and natural disaster prevention, nature conservation, circular green economy, and sustainable resource management.

A central component of the strategy is an investment of €25.5 million over three years to modernize forest protection systems, involving collaboration between the Forestry Department, Fire Service, Civil Defense, and the National Guard. Additionally, the ministry announced a revision of the Akamas National Forest Park plan, which includes a reduction of planned infrastructure by 700 square meters. Officials expect that a tender for the updated park infrastructure will be launched in the early months of 2027.
