Parents protest against school bus cancellations in Larnaca

The Federation of Secondary Education Parents of Larnaca has reported persistent cancellations of school bus routes by the operator, Cyprus Public Transport, since the start of the current school year. These disruptions have left hundreds of students without reliable access to their schools, with the Anaphotia-Alethriko route identified as a primary area of concern. On Thursday, 50 students from Anaphotia were reportedly unable to attend classes due to these service failures.

The federation condemns the company's decision to cancel routes as a retaliatory measure for alleged student misconduct and damage to property. Federation President Costas Costa stated that while behavioral issues exist, they involve only a small number of individuals who could be identified by police. Parents argue that the cancellation of services is an unacceptable response, as families have paid for these contracted services and students should not be penalized for the actions of others.

Organized parents are now calling for immediate intervention from the Ministry of Transport to ensure that students' rights to safe and consistent transportation are upheld. As of the latest reports, the affected families are seeking a prompt resolution to restore normal school commute operations, though no specific timeline for a government-led intervention has been announced.
