EuroLeague launches inaugural Super Cup in Abu Dhabi
The inaugural EuroLeague Basketball Super Cup is set to take place on September 18 and 19, 2026, at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. This tournament features a Final Four format involving Olympiacos, Fenerbahçe, Real Madrid, and the host team, Dubai BC. The competition opens on Friday with the semifinal match between Olympiacos and Fenerbahçe at 17:00, followed by the game between Dubai BC and Real Madrid at 20:00. The third-place and final matches are scheduled for Saturday.
Olympiacos, the reigning EuroLeague champions, arrived in the UAE following travel delays due to technical issues at Athens airport and visa-related complications for Jean Montero, who eventually joined the team. The squad faces uncertainty regarding Nikola Milutinov, who is dealing with tendinitis and played only two minutes in a previous friendly against Maccabi Tel Aviv. The club has announced its 12-man roster for the opening game, featuring key players such as Sasha Vezenkov, Kostas Papanikolaou, and Evan Fournier.
This new event represents a significant expansion for the EuroLeague, with officials unveiling a new trophy to be awarded to the winner of the Saturday final. Participating teams have completed their arrival and final preparations, aiming to secure the first-ever title in the history of this newly established competition.
