Cyprus Police conduct nationwide crime prevention operations

Overnight on September 16 to 17, 2026, the Cyprus Police conducted a series of organized preventative operations across the country to bolster public safety and prevent serious criminal activities. These coordinated efforts focused on key urban locations, with authorities checking 597 vehicles and questioning 777 individuals.

During the operations, police arrested three people for various offenses, including illegal residency and driving under the influence of alcohol. Authorities also inspected 35 business premises, resulting in three formal reports of delinquency. Traffic enforcement was a primary component of the operation, leading to 314 traffic citations, 89 of which were for speeding. Furthermore, officers initiated 13 investigations into traffic violations, conducted 115 breathalyzer tests resulting in 9 citations, and impounded 8 vehicles.

These actions are part of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to maintain public order and address rising concerns regarding road safety and illegal conduct in urban areas. The police stated that such intensified patrols are aimed at increasing the public's sense of security through visibility and proactive intervention.
