Trial of suspended Paphos mayor Phedon Phedonos continues behind closed doors

The trial of the suspended Mayor of Paphos, Phedon Phedonos, is currently ongoing at the Permanent Assize Court of Paphos. The court proceedings are held behind closed doors following a decision to accept a request from the prosecution to ensure the integrity of the process. Since the trial began in late July, more than ten prosecution witnesses have testified, including police investigators and experts. During the most recent hearing, three additional witnesses from the complainant's professional environment provided their testimony.

Phedonos faces five serious criminal charges, including rape, indecent assault, assault causing actual bodily harm, and the administration of a substance to neutralize a person's resistance. The accused has pleaded not guilty to all counts. The judicial process remains ongoing with the continued examination of key prosecution witnesses, while public access is restricted for the duration of the trial to protect the proceedings.
