Laou Laou festival returns to Nicosia for European Mobility Week

The annual Laou Laou festival is set to return to the Ayioi Omologites neighbourhood in Nicosia on Sunday, September 20, 2026. Organized by the OPU Collective as part of European Mobility Week, the event aims to reclaim urban streets for public use, closing the area to car traffic from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm to encourage walking and cycling.

The day-long program features a variety of community-focused activities, including street games, music, dance performances, workshops, and an NGO village. Notable highlights include a bike ride supported by the Dutch embassy, a street market, food stalls from local businesses and the OPU Community Kitchen, and a unique exhibition by Alternative Brains Rule where animated films are screened inside birdboxes. Visitors are encouraged to arrive via bicycle or a provided free shuttle bus service.

This event is part of the broader European Mobility Week, which focuses on sustainable urban transport and community-led initiatives. By transforming streets into pedestrianized zones, organizers seek to promote environmental awareness and neighborhood engagement through art and collaborative activities.
