Wanted Russian murder suspect arrested in Turkish-occupied Cyprus

A Russian national wanted internationally for the murder of a “Mrs. Russia – Universe” beauty pageant participant has been arrested in the Turkish-occupied northern part of Cyprus. The arrest followed a coordinated effort between the Russian Interior Ministry, Interpol, and Turkish authorities, after Moscow filed a request to locate the suspect.

The crime occurred in July 2026 in the Odintsovo area of the Moscow region. According to Russian investigators, the suspect engaged in a personal dispute with the victim, during which he inflicted fatal injuries before attempting to conceal evidence. He was subsequently charged with murder under Article 105 of the Russian Criminal Code. Evidence indicated that the suspect fled Russia shortly after the incident, traveling from Moscow’s Vnukovo International Airport to Turkey and then into the occupied territories of Cyprus. An international search for the man was officially launched in August 2026.

While the Russian Interior Ministry reports that it negotiated the handover and arrest directly through Turkish authorities, the incident highlights the complex jurisdictional dynamics regarding the occupied areas of the island. Legal procedures for the suspect's extradition or further prosecution are expected to follow, though specific details regarding his transfer have not yet been finalized.
