US House approves new sanctions against Russia and its allies

On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, the United States House of Representatives passed a significant legislative package imposing new sanctions on Russia and its allies for their ongoing involvement in the war against Ukraine. The bill, which had already secured approval from the Senate, received bipartisan support with a vote of 262 in favor and 159 against. It marks the most substantial legislative action against Moscow since President Donald Trump returned to office.

The legislation notably targets Russia’s so-called "ghost fleet" for the first time.
