Small aircraft crashes in Colombia leaving five dead

A light aircraft crashed in a mountainous region of Colombia over the weekend, resulting in the deaths of all five people on board. Colombian President Abelardo de la Espriella confirmed the recovery of the Cessna T206, registration number HK-4985, which had disappeared from radar shortly after takeoff on Sunday. The plane was traveling from Condoto, a jungle town in the Choco department, toward the capital, Bogota.

The victims included the pilot and four employees of a private healthcare company that provides medical services to remote areas. Search and rescue operations were conducted in a rugged, inaccessible area at an altitude of 2,700 meters. Brigadier General Luis Miguel Diaz of the Colombian Aerospace Forces noted that the crash site is located in a mountainous section of the western part of the country characterized by extremely steep terrain. Recovery efforts were hampered by the difficult geography of the site.
