Clearlake Capital gains full control of Chelsea FC as Todd Boehly steps down
Chelsea Football Club has entered a new ownership era following the departure of co-owners Todd Boehly and Mark Walter. Clearlake Capital Group, led by Behdad Eghbali and Jose Feliciano, has purchased their stakes to gain full control of the London club. The deal concludes a partnership that began in 2022 following the acquisition of the team from Roman Abramovich, with reports suggesting the sale is valued at approximately 950 million pounds, based on a total club valuation of nearly 5 billion pounds including debt.
Despite the significant change in ownership, the club has stated that there will be no alterations to daily operations, management, or the overarching strategy of the club. The transition also impacts the French club Strasbourg, which is linked to the same ownership entity, BlueCo. Todd Boehly expressed his gratitude to the staff, players, and fans, stating that it was an honor to serve as chairman during his tenure. The club expects the transition to maintain stability moving forward.
