Concerns arise over construction quality of the new Tsada road

On September 17, 2026, concerns were raised regarding the construction quality of the new road segment towards Tsada. Andreas Kyriakou, president of the PPOH, submitted an open letter to the Minister of Transport, citing reports from drivers who described the driving experience as unsafe, comparing cars to "boats on the sea" due to significant road surface irregularities.

During a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Transport, officials from the Public Works Department confirmed that a section of the new asphalt is non-compliant with technical specifications and must be removed. Authorities and the contractor are in conflict, with the Public Works Department alleging that the contractor refused to perform required post-construction checks. Lawmakers and local community leaders warned that these defects could lead to fatal traffic accidents, especially during rainy weather.

Currently, there is a dispute between the government and the contractor over testing methodologies and accountability for the substandard work. The Ministry of Transport has been unable to provide a finalized completion schedule or a definitive total cost for the project.
