Cyprus government announces new tourism subsidies to boost off-peak travel

The Cyprus Ministry of Tourism, led by Kostas Koumis, has launched a comprehensive financial incentive package aimed at extending the tourism season throughout the year. The initiative includes targeted subsidies to attract international athletic teams for training camps, alongside four-year plans to promote conferences and traditional craft workshops. A significant portion of the strategy focuses on regional development, specifically offering 85% financial support for the renovation and revitalization of tourist accommodations in Kato Pyrgos Tyllirias.

These measures are designed to strengthen the hospitality sector during the off-peak season and ensure year-round economic activity in rural and mountainous areas. While the government emphasizes the potential for economic growth and infrastructure development, local analysts note that the success of the initiative depends heavily on the actual state of regional infrastructure and accessibility, particularly during the winter months. The project also continues the support of Christmas villages, which remain a key component of the country's winter tourism appeal.
