Yellow weather warning issued for Cyprus due to approaching cyclone

The Meteorological Department of the Republic of Cyprus has issued a yellow weather warning effective from 21:00 on Thursday, September 17, until 17:00 on Friday, September 18. The warning follows the arrival of a cyclone originating from Crete, which is expected to bring heavy rain, thunderstorms, and potential hail across the island, starting in the west and moving eastward.

Precipitation intensity is forecasted to reach 35-55 mm per hour, accompanied by strong winds peaking at 8 on the Beaufort scale, or 18-20 meters per second. Weather conditions are expected to begin improving on Friday evening, although localized rain and thunderstorms may continue in mountainous regions throughout the weekend. Residents are advised of the potential for damaged tree branches and difficult walking conditions due to the high winds.
