OSAK emphasizes patient safety on World Patient Safety Day 2026

On September 17, 2026, the Cyprus Federation of Patients' Associations (OSAK) issued a statement in observance of World Patient Safety Day. The organization emphasized that safety must be a permanent priority across the healthcare system, specifically addressing the 2026 theme set by the World Health Organization: 'Safe care for non-communicable diseases' with the overarching message of 'Safe care for life'.

The campaign focuses on individuals living with chronic conditions who require continuous and often complex care. OSAK highlighted that these patients face specific risks throughout their journey, including diagnostic or treatment delays, medication errors, poor coordination among health professionals, and barriers to timely access. These factors, according to the federation, can significantly negatively impact health outcomes.

The federation noted that this year’s commemoration holds particular weight for Cyprus due to several serious cases and public complaints recently brought to light regarding the quality and safety of provided care. By raising these concerns, OSAK reiterated the necessity for enhanced prevention, rigorous control, and consistent medical oversight to ensure patient safety standards are met at every stage of the healthcare process.
