Center-left coalition wins Swedish parliamentary election

The center-left opposition bloc led by Social Democratic leader Magdalena Andersson has won the Swedish parliamentary election. Following the complete count of all ballots, the opposition secured 176 seats in the 349-member parliament, narrowly defeating the outgoing governing coalition led by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, which finished with 173 seats.

The election result marks a significant shift in Swedish politics, ending the term of the conservative coalition that included the right-wing Sweden Democrats. Although the results are subject to formal confirmation in the coming days, the outcome is considered final. Outgoing Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has not yet issued a formal public statement, though state broadcaster SVT reports that he is expected to announce his resignation shortly, clearing the way for Andersson to return to the premiership after four years in opposition.

This narrow victory follows an intense campaign period characterized by tight polling between the two major political blocks. The Swedish electoral authority successfully completed the ballot counting process, including those sent from abroad or delayed, finalizing the transition of power process.
