Power outages affect multiple areas in Nicosia and Larnaca
On September 17, 2026, widespread power outages were reported across parts of Nicosia and Larnaca due to several independent incidents affecting the power grid. The Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) confirmed that technical crews were deployed immediately to address the disruptions.
In Nicosia, the outages were primarily caused by contractors who accidentally cut underground cables in the city center near the House of Representatives and in the Tseriou area. The affected districts include Engomi, Latsia, Agioi Omologites, and Strovolos, specifically around the Chryseleousa and Presidential Palace areas. In the Larnaca province, power was lost after a cypress tree fell onto overhead lines, impacting the villages of Agia Anna, Pseudas, Mosfiloti, and Kalo Chorio.
EAC spokesperson Dimitris Nathanael stated that the fault near the Parliament was expected to be repaired quickly. However, the restoration in the Tseriou area was projected to take at least two hours. Crews remain on-site at all reported locations to complete the necessary repairs and normalize supply for all affected residents and businesses.
