Parent protests over lack of playground facilities at Apostolos Loukas Special School

On September 17, 2026, Minister of Education Athina Michaelidou visited the Apostolos Loukas Special School in Limassol to address ongoing concerns regarding facility infrastructure. While the ministry has successfully installed a sunshade in the school's courtyard, a long-requested playground remains unimplemented for the third consecutive year.

During the visit, Minister Michaelidou stated that the playground project is currently being processed by the Limassol School Board, citing technical reasons for previous delays. She expressed satisfaction with the progress of the school's requirements. Conversely, Michaelis Papadopoulos, President of the Parents' Association, voiced strong dissatisfaction. He highlighted that despite the passage of three years, no clear timelines have been established for the playground's completion. Furthermore, Papadopoulos expressed concern regarding student safety, specifically pointing to the absence of protective padding on the support poles of the newly installed sunshade.

The school, which moved into new facilities recently, continues to negotiate with the Ministry of Education to resolve these outstanding infrastructural gaps. While the Ministry maintains that projects are advancing, parents remain skeptical due to the lack of concrete deadlines for the playground's construction.
