Cyprus parliamentary committee to investigate plasmapheresis practices

The Parliamentary Health Committee in Cyprus has officially launched an inquiry into the medical practice of plasmapheresis. Following recent public discussions and reports regarding the procedure, Committee President Savia Orphanidou announced that the matter was registered ex officio for parliamentary review.

The investigation will focus on the regulatory framework governing the procedure, specifically examining the licensing requirements for health centers, hospitals, and medical professionals performing these treatments. Furthermore, the committee will evaluate the medical technology and equipment used during the process to ensure that proper safety standards and oversight mechanisms are in place. This move aims to complement ongoing efforts to map out existing facilities where such procedures are performed.

The committee is scheduled to begin these formal discussions within October. The primary goal of the inquiry is to identify gaps in current oversight protocols and to suggest improvements for the authorization and supervision of healthcare providers conducting plasmapheresis across the country.
