Cyprus issues yellow weather warning for storms and hail

The Cyprus Meteorological Service has issued a yellow weather warning across the island due to expected severe storms. The alert is in effect from 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18. Citizens have been notified of the warning via the CY Alert system.

The forecast indicates that isolated, powerful storms will move across the island, initially impacting the western regions before spreading. Rainfall intensity is expected to range between 35 and 55 millimeters per hour, accompanied by potential hail. Wind gusts may reach up to 8 Beaufort during storm activity. By Friday, temperatures are projected to be 2-4 degrees Celsius below seasonal averages, with highs of 28 to 31 degrees in inland areas and 27 to 30 degrees along the coast.

This weather pattern is driven by low pressure affecting the region. Authorities have advised the public to remain vigilant as the storms develop, with the most intense phenomena predicted for the mountainous areas and the eastern half of the island by Friday afternoon.
