Yellow weather warning issued for Cyprus due to expected severe storms

The Cyprus Meteorological Service has issued a yellow weather warning due to the arrival of severe storm systems. The alert is in effect from 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18. Authorities have utilized the CY Alert emergency system to notify citizens across the island about the potential hazards.

Meteorologists forecast that individual strong storms will initially impact the western half of the island before spreading to other regions. Rainfall intensity is expected to range between 35 and 55 millimeters per hour, accompanied by localized hail and wind gusts that could reach up to 8 on the Beaufort scale. During these periods, winds will likely shift and intensify. Sea conditions are predicted to be slightly turbulent until the weather system dissipates.

This weather pattern is attributed to low-pressure conditions affecting the region. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions as the storms are expected to cause intermittent disruptions until the warning period expires on Friday evening.
