Religious commemorations and historical accounts in September

Between September 17 and 20, 2026, the church calendar commemorates several saints and martyrs. On September 17, the Orthodox Church honors Saint Sophia and her daughters, Faith, Hope, and Love, who were executed during the reign of Emperor Hadrian for refusing to renounce their Christian faith. Despite his past service, he was exiled by Emperor Trajan but was later recalled to military duty due to his tactical expertise when the empire faced severe conflict.
