Cost of dining out in Cyprus increases significantly

Data from the Cyprus Statistical Service for August 2026 shows that dining out and hospitality costs have risen significantly for local families. A meal or service that cost 100 euros in 2023 now averages 126 euros, representing a 26% increase over three years. Compared to 2020, prices in this sector have climbed by 45.6%, and there has been a 13% increase since 2025. This means a service costing 100 euros today would have cost only 68.68 euros in 2020.

The Cyprus Restaurant Owners Association (PASIKA) attributes these hikes primarily to rising energy costs, raw material expenses, and higher prices for alcoholic beverages. While operational costs for restaurants have indeed grown, industry analysts note that the surge in food and beverage prices, as well as rent and utility costs like electricity, water, and fuel, has been much more moderate. Specifically, food and non-alcoholic beverage prices increased by 29% since 2020 but rose only 4.7% compared to 2023, suggesting that the hospitality sector's price adjustments are outpacing the general inflation of basic goods and services.

Economic experts and industry groups continue to monitor these trends as families struggle to manage budgets amidst these inflationary pressures. No specific regulatory interventions have been announced at this time.
