Legal developments in two separate cases of child fatalities in Cyprus

Two distinct legal cases involving the tragic deaths of children in Cyprus have reached different stages of judicial scrutiny. A 37-year-old British father appeared before the Paphos District Court regarding the death of his three-year-old son, who fell from a fourth-floor hotel window on July 12. The father, charged with causing death through reckless or dangerous acts, did not enter a plea, and his case was adjourned until next week as his legal counsel requested more time. He faces a maximum penalty of four years if convicted.

In a separate incident, the parents of a four-year-old boy who died after falling from a sixth-floor apartment in Engomi, Nicosia, were released without charge. The 32-year-old father and 33-year-old mother had been under a four-day remand following the Saturday incident. After reviewing the police investigation, the Legal Service concluded there was no evidence of criminal negligence, as the child appeared to have wandered off while the parents were home. Consequently, the authorities decided not to pursue prosecution, and the case file is expected to be archived.
