Update on separate child fall investigations in Cyprus

Two distinct investigations into the tragic deaths of children falling from heights are currently underway in Cyprus. A 37-year-old British man appeared before the Paphos District Court on September 18, 2026, following the death of his three-year-old son, who fell from a fourth-floor hotel window on July 12. The father is charged with causing death through a reckless or dangerous act and faces up to four years in prison if convicted. He did not enter a plea, and the hearing was adjourned until next week as his lawyer, Alexandros Alexandrou, requested more time to discuss the legal implications with his client.

Separately, in Engomi, a 32-year-old father and 33-year-old mother were released without charges regarding the death of their 4-year-old son, who fell from a sixth-floor apartment window. While the parents were initially arrested, police investigations concluded there was no evidence of criminal wrongdoing. The Attorney General accepted the recommendation to drop the case after determining no criminal liability existed in the circumstances surrounding the child’s fall. In the Paphos case, the Attorney General previously rejected a request to terminate proceedings, requiring the legal process to continue.
