Cypriot athletes secure positions in global athletics rankings
As the 2026 track and field season nears its conclusion, World Athletics has released updated rankings based on results recorded through September 15, 2026. The latest update, published on September 16, reflects the impact of major events, including the recently concluded World Athletics Ultimate Championship. Eleven Cypriot athletes have secured spots within the top 100 in their respective disciplines, marking a significant performance milestone for the nation’s representatives.
The global competitive calendar still features remaining high-level events, including the South American Games in Santa Fe, Argentina, scheduled for September 22-25, 2026, and the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, occurring from September 23-29, 2026. Both are classified as Category A events. Meanwhile, two silver-level meetings held in Chorzów, Poland, and London, England, on September 18, 2026, serve as the final opportunities for athletes to potentially adjust their current standings.
While the current rankings are considered effectively final, further shifts are possible depending on performances at these upcoming late-season meetings. The rankings remain a primary metric for evaluating athlete progress throughout the 2026 season.
