Cyprus faces Ukraine in Davis Cup World Group II tie

Cyprus hosted Ukraine on September 19-20 at the National Tennis Center for a crucial Davis Cup World Group II tie, with the winner advancing to the promotion play-offs for Group I. The Cypriot team, led by captain Dimitris Herodotou and including players Menelaos Efstathiou, Eleftherios Neos, Fotos Fotiadis, Stylianos Christodoulou, and Nicolas Campbell, aimed to secure a historic victory. The Ukrainian team arrived with a lineup featuring Georgii Kravchenko, Oleksii Krutykh, Vladyslav Orlov, and Oleksandr Ovcharenko, managed by captain Orest Tereshchuk.

The tournament draw, held at the Olympic House, determined the match schedule. President of the Cyprus Tennis Federation (OAK) Dimitris Leontis welcomed the Ukrainian delegation and expressed support for the visitors. The competition began with singles matches on Saturday, where the Cypriot players faced significant challenges against higher-ranked opponents. Fotos Fotiadis lost his opening match to Georgii Kravchenko (0-2: 4-6, 1-6), followed by a match between Menelaos Efstathiou and Oleksii Krutykh. The series continues on Sunday with the doubles match between Efstathiou/Neos and Orlov/Ovcharenko, followed by reverse singles. While Cyprus struggled on the first day, the team remains focused on performing competitively throughout the weekend.
