Andreas Mavroyiannis discusses potential candidacy for 2028 presidential elections

Andreas Mavroyiannis has signaled that he is considering a bid for the presidency of Cyprus in the 2028 elections. Speaking in various media interviews, including on the OMEGA channel, Mavroyiannis emphasized that such a decision cannot be made unilaterally. Instead, he plans to engage in consultations with his political associates and the supporters who backed his 2023 campaign to evaluate the political dynamics. He stated that a final decision regarding his participation is expected to be reached before the end of 2026.

Regarding his current standing, Mavroyiannis noted that he has received three to four recent internal polls—excluding a previously leaked survey from the Democratic Rally (DISY)—which place him in the lead. He described these results as "food for thought" regarding his potential candidacy. In addition to discussing his future prospects, Mavroyiannis sharply criticized the current administration of President Nikos Christodoulides, labeling it a "farce" and questioning the effectiveness of the government's foreign policy.

Having narrowly lost the previous election to Nikos Christodoulides, Mavroyiannis noted that the public now has a clearer understanding of the incumbent's governance, which he believes shapes the current political climate in his favor. He remains focused on assessing whether there is sufficient momentum to launch a new, viable campaign.
