Renewable energy share in Cyprus and the European Union

Eurostat data released in September 2026 shows fluctuations in the share of renewable energy sources in Cyprus throughout the spring and summer. The share of renewables in net electricity production reached 34.66% in April 2026, rising to 36.84% in May and maintaining a steady 36.80% in June. However, by July 2026, the contribution of renewables dropped significantly to 29.98%.

Across the European Union, renewable sources accounted for 54.1% of net electricity production during the second quarter of 2026, a slight decrease from the 54.3% recorded in the same period of 2025. Within this total, solar energy was the primary contributor, accounting for 41.6% of renewable generation, up from 37% the previous year. Wind power followed at 27.7%, while hydroelectric power contributed 22.6%. Renewable fuels represented 7.7%, and geothermal and other sources accounted for 0.4%.

Disparities remain significant among EU member states, ranging from 19.8% in Slovakia to 97.7% in Latvia. These statistics highlight the ongoing transition toward greener energy across the bloc and the variability of production levels within specific national energy markets.
