Strovolos municipality intensifies mosquito control measures
The Municipality of Strovolos has launched an intensive mosquito control program following heavy rainfall in August. Municipal services are conducting systematic checks and targeted interventions across public areas, focusing on locations where stagnant water accumulates, including storm drains, manholes, and ditches. Key areas identified for priority action include the Parisinos region, the vicinity of Dimitris Christofias Avenue, the Kalogiros River, and the GSP Stadium.
While the municipality maintains responsibility for public spaces, authorities have noted the presence of potential mosquito breeding sites on private property, specifically at ongoing construction sites and poorly maintained swimming pools. Officials emphasized that the responsibility for managing these private areas rests solely with property owners and managers. These actions are being coordinated to support the broader work carried out by the health services of the Ministry of Health. Further monitoring and intervention efforts are expected to continue in order to mitigate the recent rise in mosquito populations across the Nicosia region.
