Thirteen-year-old student attacks teacher at Rome middle school
A 13-year-old student attacked and wounded his teacher on the morning of Friday, September 18, 2026, at the Giovanni Verga middle school in the Collatino district of Rome. The incident occurred shortly after the school day began, when the student sprayed the teacher with pepper spray before proceeding to stab her. The victim was transported to Vannini Hospital, where she was treated for shock and minor wounds; medical authorities have confirmed that her life is not in danger.
During the assault, the perpetrator attempted to record the event on his mobile phone to broadcast it live via the Telegram platform. However, his classmates intervened, managing to disarm him and block his attempt to stream the violence. Carabineri forces from the Centocelle station arrived at the school shortly after to take the minor into custody.
This incident follows a series of violent school-related events in Italy, despite the introduction of heightened security measures, such as the installation of metal detectors at various educational institutions across the country. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the student's actions and motives.
