AEK Athens signs French point guard Thomas Heurtel

AEK Athens has officially bolstered its roster by signing 37-year-old French point guard Thomas Heurtel on a one-year contract. The deal, announced on September 18, 2026, marks a significant addition for the club as it prepares for a demanding season in both the Greek league and the Stoiximan GBL.

Heurtel, born in 1989 in Beziers, brings extensive experience from top European leagues and the EuroLeague. Standing 1.89 meters tall, he arrives at the club following a previous season with LDLC ASVEL in the EuroLeague, where he averaged nearly 20 minutes across 25 appearances. The acquisition follows a period of negotiations led by AEK coach Dragan Sakota, who identified the playmaker as a key target to improve the team's scoring and distribution alongside Frank Bartley.

The signing concludes AEK's primary transfer activity for the upcoming season, as the club seeks to solidify its perimeter line. Heurtel's professional career, which began with Pau-Orthez in 2007, includes stints with Baskonia, Alicante, and Strasbourg. He is expected to integrate into the squad immediately as the team continues its preparations for domestic and international competitions.
