2026 Democracy Award ceremony held in Nicosia

On Tuesday, September 15, 2026, the Socio-Political Thought Center 'Politeia' held its annual Democracy Award ceremony at the Journalists' House in Nicosia to mark the International Day of Democracy. The event recognized former Green Party leader Charalampos Theopemptou and the humanitarian organization Caritas Cyprus for their efforts in promoting and strengthening democratic values within Cypriot society.

During the event, Dr. Nikos Peristianis, founder of Politeia, and Anna Koukkidi-Prokopiou, former Minister of Justice and Public Order, emphasized the importance of safeguarding democracy. The ceremony also included a memorial tribute to Xenophon Kallis, delivered by the Greek Cypriot member of the Committee on Missing Persons, Dr. Leonidas Pantelidis.
