Cyprus government to introduce pension reform bill in September

Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Marinos Mousiouttas announced that a comprehensive pension reform bill will be submitted to the House of Representatives by the end of September 2026. This announcement was made during the annual meeting of the Human Resource Development Authority (AnAD) with professional training centers, where the Minister emphasized the necessity of aligning retirement systems with modern workforce requirements and long-term career durability.

The proposed reform aims to ensure a fair, sustainable, and adequate pension system by implementing increases across all pension tiers, with prioritized support for low-income retirees. Additionally, the legislation introduces new pension credits to benefit parents, individuals with disabilities, and informal caregivers. The government maintains that the strategy focuses on long-term financial stability for future generations, while social dialogue with stakeholders remains ongoing to ensure equitable distribution of benefits and burdens.
