Cyprus to introduce pension reform bill in September

The Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Marinos Mousiouttas, announced on Friday, September 18, 2026, that the government plans to submit a pension reform bill to the Parliament by the end of the month. The announcement was made during the annual meeting of the Human Resource Development Authority (AnAD) with Vocational Training Centers. The minister emphasized that the reform is closely linked to the need for continuous professional development as working lives grow longer.

The proposed legislation includes increases for all pensions, with a primary focus on providing greater support to low-income pensioners. Additionally, the reform introduces pension credits for parents, individuals with disabilities, and informal caregivers. According to the Minister, the ultimate goal of the initiative is to ensure a social security system that is adequate, fair, and financially sustainable for future generations.

By linking the reform to workforce training, the government aims to help employees maintain their market value until retirement. This legislative step is expected to proceed to the parliamentary floor for debate before the conclusion of September.
