Road construction and traffic diversions in Nicosia and Strovolos
New road works and temporary traffic arrangements have been announced for the Nicosia district, impacting major thoroughfares in Strovolos and Lykavittos. Starting Monday, September 21, 2026, until January 10, 2027, a segment of Tseriou Avenue in Strovolos will be converted to a one-way street. The affected section spans from the intersection with Konstantinoupoleos Street to the Charalampou Pettemeridi Street junction, with traffic directed toward the center of Strovolos. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes including Kandaras, Patriarchi Grigoriou E, and Strovolou Avenue.
Simultaneously, construction work under the 'Nicosia City Center Contract 23' project is affecting Dimitsanis Street in the Lykavittos area. From September 19 to September 23, 2026, parts of Dimitsanis Street, along with Kritis, Filippiados, Naxou, and Orfeos streets, will remain closed. Authorities have implemented temporary traffic diversions and signage in the area to manage the flow. Additionally, the Forestry Department continues irrigation works along the shoulders of several highways, including the Larnaca-Paralimni and Larnaca-Nicosia routes, until September 30, 2026, with work typically occurring on weekdays from 08:30 to 14:30. Drivers are urged to exercise caution and adhere to all posted road signs during this period of heightened road maintenance across the region.
