Multinational exercise Medusa-15 concludes near Crete

The multinational joint exercise "Medusa-15" concluded on September 18, 2026, following an eight-day deployment in the sea region off Crete. The training, which ran from September 10 to 18, involved military forces from Greece, Cyprus, Egypt, France, and Italy, with observers from Serbia and the United Arab Emirates present.

The final phase was observed from the Greek frigate "Psara" by top military officials, including the Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff, General Dimitrios Houpis, the Chief of the Cypriot National Guard, Lieutenant General Emmanouil Theodorou, and the Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Ahmed Fathy Ibrahim Khalifa. The exercise focused on enhancing interoperability through scenarios such as amphibious operations, boarding drills, and air defense maneuvers.

A notable focus of the exercise was the testing of the Greek "Kentauros" anti-drone system, which was employed to counter simulated swarm attacks by unmanned aerial vehicles. The Cyprus National Guard contributed to the exercise with the offshore patrol vessel "Ioannidis," an AW-139 helicopter, and a specialized team from the Underwater Demolitions Unit.
