EU leadership to attend 81st UN General Assembly in New York
European Council President Antonio Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, accompanied by members of the College of Commissioners, will travel to New York for the High-Level Week of the 81st UN General Assembly, taking place from September 20 to 25, 2026.
On September 24, Antonio Costa will address the General Assembly on behalf of the European Union, reaffirming the bloc's commitment to an inclusive multilateral system based on the UN Charter and international law. Prior to this, on September 21, Costa will co-host the 'Partners for Multilateralism, International Law, Peace and Prosperity' (P4M) summit alongside Kenyan President William Ruto and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. This event, which will also be attended by Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, aims to strengthen the multilateral order in the face of rising global geopolitical tensions.
This high-level mission underscores the European Union's ongoing diplomatic efforts to defend a rules-based international order. The delegation will remain in New York through September 25 to engage in various diplomatic meetings to promote international cooperation and regional stability.
