New women's football clubs emerge in the Cypriot First Division

The Cypriot women's football landscape is expanding with the launch of two new teams, APOEL Ladies FC and Peyia-Akamas Ladies FC, both set to compete in the First Division. The APOEL women's team and its youth academy recently held a blessing ceremony at the Leventio Stadium in Deftera, officiated by Metropolitan Isaiah of Tamassos and Oreinis. The club aims to establish a competitive and sustainable presence in the league over the coming years, emphasizing its commitment to its historic identity.

Simultaneously, the newly formed professional club Peyia-Akamas Ladies FC has been established in the Paphos district to promote development in the region. Based at the Peyia Municipal Stadium, the team is positioning itself as a modern, competitive sports entity. Both clubs are now finalizing their preparations for the upcoming competitive season. The inaugural match of the league will feature a historic confrontation between the two newcomers, with Peyia-Akamas Ladies FC hosting APOEL Ladies FC on October 3, 2026, marking the first official match for the Paphos-based side.
