DEH and AWS sign agreement to develop major data center in Greece

The Public Power Corporation (DEH) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have signed a binding Memorandum of Understanding to develop a massive data center project in Agios Dimitrios, West Macedonia. This strategic partnership aims to transform Greece’s digital and energy infrastructure, marking the official entry of a major international technology provider into a large-scale project that has been under planning for approximately 18 months.

The project is slated to begin with an initial power capacity of 300 MW, with a long-term vision to expand the facility to 1 GW. Under the terms of the agreement, DEH will provide the land, facilities, and energy infrastructure, while AWS will be responsible for the installation and operation of the IT equipment. Upon completion of construction, AWS will lease the facility through a 15-year long-term contract. Additionally, the deal includes the execution of long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) to supply the site with green energy.

While this MOU represents a significant advancement, the project remains subject to final contract negotiations, market conditions, and mutual approval. This initiative is expected to enhance Greece’s position in the European digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence sectors.
