Polemidia mayor opposes high-density development in new residential zones

Andros Theodorou, the mayor of Polemidia, has formally announced his opposition to increasing the building density coefficient in the new residential development area north of the local hospital. While the municipality supports the expansion of residential zones, Theodorou expressed concerns that increasing the density beyond the current 60% would encourage the construction of four or five-story apartment buildings, potentially altering the character of the neighborhood. The mayor maintains that the existing regulations are sufficient for this area.

Simultaneously, the municipality is engaging in consultations with local residents as part of the broader Limassol Local Plan revision. In contrast to the new development zones, the city administration plans to propose a density increase for the older Pano Polemidia district. This initiative aims to allow current residents to add an extra floor to existing houses, enabling young families and the children of current inhabitants to better utilize their properties. The municipality expects to submit its formal recommendations to the Tripartite Committee by October 30, following which the proposals will be reviewed by the Council of Ministers for final approval.
