The controversy stems from claims made by two doctors present at the scene, Ilias Theodoropoulos and Ioanna Gaka, who accused the EKAB crew of failing to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) upon their arrival.

Mathiopoulos refuted these accusations, stating that the ambulance crew followed all established medical protocols. He emphasized that the rescue team arrived at the facility without being fully briefed on the medical procedures already performed on the singer, nor were they informed of the patient's identity. Despite the lack of information, the crew immediately initiated CPR. When the patient did not respond, he was transported to Elpis Hospital.
