EKAV union president clarifies ambulance transport of Giorgos Mazonakis

On September 19, 2026, Giorgos Mathiopoulos, president of the EKAV employees' union and vice president of POEDIN, addressed allegations regarding the ambulance transport of singer Giorgos Mazonakis from a private clinic in Kolonaki. Responding to claims made by physicians Ilias Theodoropoulos and Ioanna Gaka, who accused the ambulance crew of failing to perform CPR, Mathiopoulos asserted that the crew strictly followed all required medical protocols from the moment they arrived.

According to Mathiopoulos, the medical staff at the private clinic provided insufficient information during the patient handover. He stated that the only information given to the rescue team was that the patient had not been connected to a specific medical device, without further clarification on the procedures already performed. The union leader emphasized that the crew was not informed of the patient's identity or the full extent of the medical actions that had occurred prior to their arrival. Consequently, he rejected the accusations against the rescue workers, attributing the controversy to a lack of proper communication during the transfer process.
